
Women's Track & Field Takes 3rd At NJCAA National Tournament
The Mineral Area College Cardinals women's track and field team put on a determined and well-rounded performance at the 2025 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York. The Cardinals finished 3rd overall with a point total of 84.5.
Championship Highlights:
Field Event Dominance
MAC's most impressive showing came in the field events, where the Cardinals captured three individual event titles:
- Nora Henry (FR) claimed gold in the shot put, unleashing a top throw of 10.76 meters (35' 3.75") to secure 10 points for the team.
- Addison Waller-Brenneke (FR) delivered a clutch performance in the discus, taking first place with a throw of 38.41 meters (126' 0").
- Cassidy Herget (SO) earned top honors in the javelin, winning the event with a best throw of 33.36 meters (109' 5").
In addition to those victories, Alexis Walker (FR) showed her versatility, finishing 2nd in the hammer throw (38.35m), 3rd in shot put (9.86m), and contributing valuable points.
Middle and Long Distance Strength
On the track, MAC's distance squad proved formidable:
- Alyson Skiles (FR) turned in a stellar meet, placing 2nd in the 5000 meters (20:47.91) and 5th in the 1500 meters (5:17.86), totaling 12 points individually.
- Dakotah Medows (FR) finished 4th in the 800 meters final (2:37.49), gaining 5 points after a strong run through prelims.
Sprints and Hurdles
While the Cardinals faced stiff competition in sprint events, Felicity Kester (SO) advanced to the 400-meter final, finishing 7th with a time of 1:04.61, earning 2 points. Kester also competed in the 200 meters and anchored the 4x100 relay team, which placed 7th overall (55.34).
In hurdles, Kenleigh Lange (SO) qualified for the 100-meter hurdles final, where she secured an 8th-place finish (16.98), adding 1 point to the team's total.
High Jump and Triple Jump Efforts
Freshman Brionna Williams stood out in the high jump, finishing 2nd with a clearance of 1.47m (4' 9.75"), securing 7 points. Cassidy Herget added a half-point in the same event by tying for 8th place (1.34m).
Herget also landed 8th in the triple jump (9.69m) and placed competitively in the long jump. Lange and Williams rounded out the horizontal jumps, just shy of the scoring positions.
