MAC Baseball Goes 2-1 On Opening Weekend
The Mineral Area College baseball team recently opened their 2023 campaign, going 2-1 on their trip to Florida on February 3 and February 4.
Game 1 vs Pensacola State College – W – 16-13
The Cardinals were able to take game one of the season thanks to a powerful offensive showing, which included an eight run inning in the 6th. Offensively, MAC was led by Alonzo Zuniga (5 hits, 2 RBI) Justin Carinci (4 hits), Ruendrick Piternella (2 hits, HR, 4 RBI), Brady Bye (2 hits, HR, 3 RBI), Jack Dunn (1 hit, HR, 2RBI) and Liam Bushey (2 hits, 2 RBI). Cam Loyd picked up the win for the Cardinals, going 1 2/3 innings on the mound and allowing 2 earned runs.
Game 2 vs Pensacola State College – L – 8-2
MAC fell in game two of the season after falling behind early. Offensively, the Cardinals were led by Liam Bushey (1 hit, 1 RBI) and Jack Dunn (1 hit, 1 RBI). Brian Strange took the loss on the mound for MAC, throwing 4 innings and allowing 5 earned runs and recording 5 strikeouts.
Game 3 vs East Central Community College (MS) – W – 2-1
The Cardinals got an impressive performance on the mound from Ryker Walton and were able to do just enough offensively to edge East Central in the final game of their trip. Offensively, MAC was led again by Ruendrick Piternella (2 hits, 1 RBI) and Alonzo Zuniga (1 hit, 1 RBI). Walton earned the win on the mound, throwing 5 scoreless innings and striking out 7 East Central batters.
MAC starts the season 3-1. The Cardinals will return to action on Friday, February 10 when they travel to Southwest Mississippi Community College. First pitch of Friday's double-header is set for 3:00pm.
