
MAC Defeats State Fair 2-1, Advances To Region 16 Championship
The Mineral Area College men's soccer team came away with a thrilling 2-1 win over State Fair CC in the Region 16 Semifinal match on Tuesday, October 29.
From the opening whistle, the Cardinals exhibited a commanding presence. The first breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Kobe Bewicke found the back of the net, putting the Cardinals ahead 1-0. The Cardinals held the 1-0 lead throughtout the first half and went into halftime leading by the same score.
The second half saw the Cardinals continue to apply pressure. Just six minutes after the break, Shay Carey scored, extending Mineral Area's lead to 2-0 but State Fair would not go away lightly. In the 60th minute, the Roadrunners narrowing the score to 2-1. Despite their efforts to equalize, the Cardinals' defense, led by goalkeeper Grady Wilson, held firm. Wilson made several crucial saves throughout the match, finishing with an impressive total of eight saves against nine shots on goal from State Fair.
With the win over State Fair, MAC advances to the Region 16 Championship on Saturday, November 2. On Saturday, the Cardinals will travel to #1 seed St. Charles CC for a 2pm kickoff with the winner advancing to the Central District Tournament.
