Casey and Denslow shine at NJCAA indoor championships

(3/9/21)

The 2021 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Indoor season had an exciting Grand Finale this past weekend, with over 60 schools competing at the National Indoor Track & Field Championships. The two day competition on March 5th-6th was held at the Robert Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. Opened in 2015, the impressive 154,000 square-foot facility not only has one of only six university owned 300-meter tracks in the nation, but also includes a 100-yard turf football field, an 11,000 square-foot modern strength facility, seating at the track area for 1,500 people, as well as locker rooms for men's and women's track and field, football, and numerous offices and meeting rooms.  The spacious facility, along with great cooperation from officials, coaches, and athletes, allowed for great competition while also following COVID-19 guidelines.

Mineral Area College was represented at the Meet by Sophomore athletes Jake Casey and Donovan Denslow.  Casey had a busy schedule, competing in the 7 event heptathlon over the two-day meet and had a great effort to place 14th overall with a score of 3,669 points, which was helped by personal best results in 4 of the 7 events.  Jake's overall placings and times/distances for all 7 events were:

The National meet was a great experience for both of these young men and will lead to bigger and better performances in future competitions.  Congratulations to Jake and Donovan.

Things aren't slowing down for the MAC Track and Field teams, with Outdoor Competition set to begin in late March.
