MAC Track headed to Nationals.
Mineral Area Track and Field teams finished regular season with meets at Greenville, Illinois and Lindenwood College.
NJCAA DIVISION III TRACK AND FIELD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS CHANGED FROM NEW JERSEY TO TEXAS; BOTH MAC TEAMS STILL IN THE TOP 5 FOR NATIONAL RANKINGS.
The Mineral Area College Track and Field teams competed in their final two regular season meets with competition at the Greenville Select Invitational on Saturday, April 17th, and the Dick Cochran Invitational hosted by Lindenwood University on Saturday April 24th. Both meets dealt with rainy conditions, with a late morning clearing making for ideal racing conditions and several personal best performances for the MAC runners at the Greenville meet. Highlights from the Greenville Invitational were: Personal best times from 5,000 meter runners Wyatt Elliott(1st place), Kyle Vinyard, Jacob Arnold, Alex Ahrens, Nani Brewington, and Haley Hernandez; Sophia Welch, Brianna Sansoucie, and Jake Casey in the sprints/hurdles; Ricardo Menjivar in the 1,500; and a first place finish from Donovan Denslow in the 1,500. The Cardinals weren't quite as lucky with the rain on the 24th at Lindenwood, as weather conditions stuck around most of the day and affected times and distances. Jacob Arnold managed season best times in both the 1,500- and 800-meter races.
The biggest news of the week came from the NJCAA changing the site of the Division III Track and Field National Championships from Edison, New Jersey to Levelland, Texas which is also the site of the Division I Championships. Expected low attendance from Division III schools because of COVID related issues was the reason for the change. Dates for the National Championships are set for May 11th through the 13th on the campus of South Plains Junior College. Complete Mineral Area results for the meets at Greenville and Lindenwood were:
