
Men's T&F Takes 6th At NJCAA National Championship, Womble Wins Javelin
The Mineral Area College men's track and field team had an impressive showing at the 2025 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held May 8-10 at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY. The Cardinals finished 6th overall with a point total of 47.
Standout Performances
Kolyn McBride: The freshman sprinter from Mineral Area College had a standout performance in the 200 meters, finishing 6th in the finals with a time of 22.03, earning valuable points for his team. Earlier in the competition, McBride clocked 22.35 in the preliminaries, finishing 4th in his heat with a slight tailwind of +1.6 m/s.
Cory Miller participated in both the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles. In the 110-meter hurdles finals, Miller ran a time of 16.04, securing 6th place and adding 3 points to the team's total. He had previously finished 6th in his heat of the preliminaries with a time of 16.35.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Miller finished 13th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:00.86, but it was Charles Bockenkamp who claimed 3rd place in the finals with a time of 57.54, earning 6 points for MAC.
Isaiah Nevel had solid performances in the high jump and triple jump. In the high jump, Nevel finished in 3rd place with a clearance of 1.92m (6' 3.5"), earning 6 points for the team. In the triple jump, Nevel finished 6th overall with a mark of 13.28m (43' 7"), while his teammate Camden Mayes finishing 2nd with a leap of 13.81m (45' 3.75"), scoring 8 points. Mayes' jump was consistent, and he narrowly missed out on the top spot of 13.82m.
Peyton Womble had an exceptional performance in the javelin throw, where he won the event with a personal best of 47.47m (155' 9"), earning a perfect 10 points for the team. Womble's consistency in the competition was impressive, throwing well over 43 meters in each of his attempts. His teammate Luke Powell also made a strong showing, finishing 2nd with a mark of 46.28m (151' 10"), earning 8 points. Powell's strong finish helped solidify MAC's presence in the throwing events.
Garrett Shortt represented MAC in the 1500 meters, finishing 9th with a time of 4:36.84.
Daniel Laughlin finished 12th with a time of 11:33.31 in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
