Cardinals Win Region Championship, Advance To District
The MAC volleyball team competed in the Region 16 D1 Volleyball Tournament at Jefferson College on Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28.
In Saturday's semifinal match against Jefferson College, the Cardinals secured set one by a score of 25-19. MAC kept their momentum going with a 25-20 win in set two. The Vikings rebounded in set three by taking a 22-12 lead but MAC came roaring back to win the set 33-31 and the match 3-0.
The win over Jefferson sent the Cardinals into the championship match on Saturday, October 28 against MSU – West Plains. In Saturday's championship match, the Cardinals used momentum from Friday's win to take set one from the Grizzlies by score of 25-15. West Plains bounced back to win set two 25-17 and set three 25-13. MAC took set four (25-21) to set up a fifth and deciding set. In the fifth set, the Cardinals jumped ahead early and held on for a 15-8 win.
The Region 16 Championship is the 5th in program history and 5th under Head Coach Tim Copeland. With the win, the Cardinals advance to the Midwest B District Tournament on Sunday, November 5 at Iowa Western CC. The winner of the Midwest B District Tournament will advance to the NJCAA D1 Volleyball Championship in Hutchinson, Kansas.
