MAC Competes at UIS & Principia, Dean Receives National Recognition

Abigail Dean named NJCAA D III Runner of the Week after Principia Meet

The Mineral Area College XC teams kept the start to their season off to a successful one, with meets at Principia College on Friday, September 1st, and the 8th annual Prairie Stars Invitational hosted by The University of Illinois at Springfield on Friday, September 8th.

At the Principia meet, sophomore Abigail Dean finished in 5th place to lead the team, running the 4-kilometer race in 18:26, which helped the team to a second-place finish.  Dean's effort also earned her NJCAA National Cross Country Division III Athlete of the Week. Following Dean were:  Grace Bone-7th (19:07); Kiera Finn-9th (19:34); Janson King-11th (19:56); Melayna Brown-14th (20:52); and Aubree Jones- 20th (23:42).

At the UIS meet, race distances increased to 5-Kilometers for Women and 7-Kilometers for the men, with both teams coming in 4th out of 8 schools.  The top finisher for the Cardinals was Riley Petsch, running the 5k in 21:14 to place 19th.  Complete Mineral Area results were:

The next races for the MAC teams will be on Friday, September 29th in Terre Haute, Indiana at the Nike XC Town Twilight Meet held at the prestigious LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
