MAC Starts 2025 Season With Sweep Over Dyersburg State

Mineral Area College Cardinals Start Season with Two Wins Over Dyersburg State CC Eagles

The Mineral Area College Cardinals kicked off their 2025 softball season in dominant fashion, securing two victories over the Dyersburg State Community College Eagles on February 4, 2025. The Cardinals put on a well-rounded display of offense and pitching, sweeping the doubleheader 8-3 and 4-1.

Game 1: Cardinals Take Command, Win 8-3

In the first game of the day, Mineral Area College's offense came alive in the third inning with a four-run outburst, followed by a two-run fifth and two more in the sixth.

Keri Williams earned the start for the Cardinals and gave a solid three innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out three. Sarah Hoshaw (1-0) relieved Williams and sealed the win with a strong four innings of work, allowing just one earned run on three hits and striking out one.

The Cardinals' lineup was efficient and aggressive. Gracie Wright led the offense, collecting three hits, driving in one run, and scoring two times. Freshman Ava Spalding led off with a strong performance, scoring two runs and contributing one RBI. Emma Thiltgen added to the offensive explosion with two hits and four RBIs.

Game 2: Pitching and Clutch Hitting Lead to 4-1 Win

The second game was a closer affair, with Mineral Area College pulling away in the third inning, thanks to a three-run rally. Dyersburg State managed to score one in the second but could not add any more runs as the Cardinals' pitching kept them at bay.

Libby Mesch (1-0) started the second game and was nothing short of dominant. The freshman pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run on five hits, striking out four while walking two.

Offensively, Gracie Wright excelled once again, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including a triple. Ainsley Burnett and Sophie Meyer each had an RBI in the win, with Meyer also contributing a double.

Looking Ahead

With their 2-0 record to start the season, MAC has set the tone early for the 2025 campaign.  The Cardinals will now be idle until they head to Branson, MO to participate in the Branson Juco Jam on Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15.
